Deaf & Hard of Hearing Teacher Virtual | Washington
Job Description: We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting students with hearing impairments, creating inclusive learning environments, and implementing effective teaching strategies to enhance communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with hearing impairments.
- Provide specialized instruction in communication methods, including American Sign Language (ASL) and other augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems.
- Collaborate with other educators, speech-language pathologists, and support staff to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
- Assess and monitor students' progress in language, literacy, and other academic areas.
- Utilize assistive technology and resources to enhance communication and learning experiences.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that celebrates diversity and promotes mutual understanding.
- Provide support to mainstream teachers and staff in accommodating students with hearing impairments in regular classroom settings.
- Conduct regular communication with parents, sharing progress updates and collaborating on strategies for student success.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Deaf Education or Special Education with a focus on hearing impairments.
- Valid state teaching certification in Deaf Education or Special Education with a hearing impairment endorsement.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other relevant communication modes.
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
