As a School DHH Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in providing specialized instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Utilizing your expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) and instructional strategies tailored to individual needs, you will create inclusive learning environments that foster academic growth and development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with hearing impairments
- Provide direct instruction in language, literacy, and communication skills using evidence-based practices
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and other educators, to address students' unique needs
- Utilize assistive technology and adaptive resources to enhance learning opportunities
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly
- Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes social-emotional development and self-advocacy skills
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Deaf Education or related field
- Valid certification as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher or eligibility for certification in Mississippi
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) required
- Previous experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing preferred
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
