Blazer Jobs is currently seeking experienced School Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Specialists for full-time positions within school districts in Mount Prospect, Illinois. We specialize in providing staffing solutions to support the diverse needs of students in educational settings.
Requirements:
Applicants must meet all local and state requirements to apply. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Holding a valid Professional Educator License (PEL) with a DHH endorsement issued by the state of Illinois.
- Possessing a bachelor's degree or higher in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field.
- Demonstrating proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledge of other communication modalities used by students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Having experience working with students who have varying degrees of hearing loss and communication needs.
- Collaborating effectively with teachers, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and other school staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with hearing impairments.
- Providing direct instruction, support, and accommodations to help students access the general education curriculum and achieve academic success.
- Conducting assessments, evaluating students' functional hearing, language skills, and academic progress, and using data to inform instructional planning and decision-making.
- Utilizing assistive technology, amplification devices, and other resources to enhance students' communication skills, auditory access, and learning outcomes.
- Facilitating communication and social interaction among students who are deaf or hard of hearing, their peers, and members of the school community.
- Advocating for students' needs, rights, and inclusion in the least restrictive environment, in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations.
- Providing consultation, training, and support to school personnel, parents, and caregivers on strategies for creating accessible learning environments and promoting language development.
- Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of student progress, services provided, and communication with stakeholders, in compliance with legal and professional standards.
- Participating in professional development activities, workshops, and conferences to enhance knowledge and skills in the field of deaf education and special education.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with school teams to assess students' educational needs, develop appropriate goals and objectives, and plan individualized interventions to support academic, communication, and social-emotional development.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in various educational settings, including classrooms, resource rooms, and specialized programs.
- Adapt instructional materials, techniques, and strategies to meet the diverse needs of students with hearing impairments, including those with additional disabilities or language delays.
- Implement evidence-based practices for promoting language acquisition, literacy skills, and academic achievement among students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Monitor students' progress, collect data on performance outcomes, and adjust instruction and support services as needed to ensure continued growth and success.
- Collaborate with teachers, speech-language pathologists, interpreters, and other professionals to facilitate communication, address barriers to learning, and promote inclusive practices.
- Advocate for students' access to appropriate accommodations, assistive technology, and communication supports, and ensure compliance with individualized education plans (IEPs) and legal mandates.
- Foster positive relationships with students, families, and community partners to support students' holistic development and promote a sense of belonging and empowerment.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information, adhere to ethical and professional standards, and uphold the principles of cultural and linguistic diversity in all interactions.
