Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist - Lawrence, Kansas
An opportunity is available for a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist to support elementary students during the Extended School Year (ESY) program. This role is focused on delivering specialized instruction and support to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, ensuring they receive the educational services necessary to succeed.
Location: Lawrence, KS
Duration: ESY program, June
Schedule: In-person, four hours each morning, Monday through Thursday
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction and support tailored to Deaf/Hard of Hearing elementary students
- Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Use appropriate communication methods and assistive technology to enhance student learning
- Monitor student progress and adjust strategies as needed during the ESY session
- Participate in team meetings and communicate effectively with parents and educators
Qualifications and Experience:
- Certification or licensure as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or Teacher
- Experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in an elementary school setting
- Knowledge of relevant instructional strategies, communication methods, and assistive technologies
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to maintain a positive and supportive learning environment
