Key Qualifications:
- Professional experience as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in a school environment
- Valid teaching certification for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (or eligibility for state certification)
- Strong understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and special education requirements
- Expertise in American Sign Language (ASL), auditory/oral approaches, or total communication strategies
- Excellent collaboration skills with teachers, staff, families, and other special education professionals
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs
Responsibilities:
- Deliver tailored instruction to students with hearing loss, supporting access to the general education curriculum and communication needs
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
- Conduct assessments in functional communication, academic progress, and social-emotional areas
- Provide consultation and professional development to classroom teachers and staff regarding accommodations and instructional strategies
- Engage with families to ensure consistent support and communication
- Travel between school sites within the district as needed to address student needs
