Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Metairie, LA
A full-time Teacher for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing position is available in the New Orleans, LA area, with an assignment expected to begin as soon as possible and continue through May 22, 2026. Location: Metairie, Louisiana (New Orleans area)
Contract Type: Full-time, 35 hours per week (7 hours/day plus 30-minute unpaid lunch), Monday through Friday following the school calendar
Caseload: To be determined, serving students with Deaf/Hard of Hearing needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction tailored to the academic and communication needs of students with hearing impairments
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech therapists, and support staff to implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Conduct assessments and adjust teaching strategies to meet student progress and needs
- Monitor student performance and maintain accurate records in compliance with district standards
- Engage with families and caregivers to provide updates and resources supporting student success
Qualifications:
- Active Louisiana DOE teaching certification in Deaf / Hard of Hearing education required
- Ability to undergo and pass district-required drug screen and fingerprinting
- Experience levels welcomed from entry to advanced:
- 0-2 years experience
- 3-5 years experience
- 6-9 years experience
- 10+ years experience
