About This Position
Join our team of remote educators serving students who are deaf or hard of hearing in K-12 settings. This position typically requires 37.5 hours weekly, with caseloads ranging from 25-40 students depending on service delivery model and student needs. You'll provide direct instruction in language development, academic content, and communication skills while ensuring students have access to grade-level curriculum through appropriate accommodations and modifications.
Teaching Responsibilities
Your role encompasses developing and implementing specialized lesson plans that address both academic standards and unique language acquisition needs of DHH students. You'll conduct language assessments, monitor progress toward IEP goals, and adapt instructional materials for visual learning. Collaboration with interpreters, audiologists, and general education teachers ensures comprehensive support. You'll also provide consultation to families regarding communication strategies and assistive technology, maintaining regular communication about student progress and needs.
Required Qualifications
- Current Nevada teaching license with Deaf/Hard of Hearing endorsement
- Master's degree in Deaf Education or related field
- Two years minimum of school-based DHH teaching experience
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and/or other communication methodologies
- Experience with assistive listening devices and classroom accommodations
- Strong technology skills for virtual instruction delivery
- Dedicated workspace with appropriate lighting for visual communication
The Virtual DHH Classroom
Remote instruction for DHH students leverages technology to provide visual access to instruction, captioning services, and recorded lessons students can review. You'll use specialized platforms that support visual communication, screen sharing for visual aids, and breakout rooms for small group instruction, all while maintaining the specialized support these students require.
