Remote Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) - Pennsylvania
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field from an accredited institution
• Active Pennsylvania Instructional I or II Certificate: Special Education – Hearing Impaired PK-12 issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE)
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or auditory-oral communication modalities depending on student caseload needs
• Minimum of 2+ years of experience (school-based and/or tele-instruction preferred)
• Experience facilitating IEP goals, specialized instructional design, and language development for deaf/hard-of-hearing students
• Strong communication, organizational, and case-management skills
• Comfortable using telepractice platforms, digital curricula, and assistive listening technologies
Key Responsibilities
Assessment & Specialized Instruction
• Deliver direct virtual specialized instruction (individual and small group) tailored to students’ IEP goals in communication, language, and core academics
• Assess functional hearing, language acquisition, receptive/expressive communication skills, and academic progress
• Adapt and differentiate general education curricula to align with visual, auditory, and language-based learning styles
• Collect and analyze objective instructional data to track milestone progress and drive IEP goal updates
Collaboration & Case Management
• Collaborate closely with general and special education teachers, educational audiologists, SLIs/interpreters, SLPs, and parents
• Provide consultation regarding classroom acoustic management, captioning, visual learning accommodations, and assistive listening devices (ALDs/FM/DM systems)
• Participate actively in virtual IEP team meetings, multidisciplinary evaluation teams (MDT), and comprehensive annual reviews
Documentation & Compliance
• Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely documentation of direct service logs, progress monitoring reports, and IEP goal mastery
• Ensure all instructional interventions and compliance procedures strictly comply with PDE Chapter 14 regulations, district guidelines, and IDEA mandates
• Complete academic evaluations, Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP), and compliance paperwork
Technology & Digital Tools
• Utilize secure telepractice platforms, interactive visual materials, and specialized digital media to deliver engaging remote instruction
• Guide onsite school facilitators and educational interpreters on optimal screen positioning, visual accessibility, and tech coordination
• Provide basic troubleshooting support for digital platforms and remote assistive technologies
Advocacy & Student Empowerment
• Support students in developing strong self-advocacy skills, understanding their hearing loss, and independently managing assistive hearing tools
• Provide specialized resources and training to school staff and families regarding deaf culture, language development, and inclusive practices
