Job Opening: Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Location: Colorado Springs, CO
Duration: Full Time, 24-25 School Year
Hours: 37.5-40 hours per week
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to join our team for the upcoming school year. In this role, you will work with students who are hard of hearing and use spoken language. While we do not currently have any students who are deaf or use ASL, your expertise in supporting students with hearing impairments will be invaluable in ensuring their academic success and social-emotional development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Deaf Education or a related field
- Valid teaching license with endorsement in Deaf Education or ability to obtain
- Experience working with students who are hard of hearing
- Knowledge of auditory-verbal or auditory-oral approaches
- Ability to collaborate effectively with school staff, parents, and outside professionals
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students who are hard of hearing, focusing on developing language, communication, and literacy skills
- Adapt curriculum materials and instructional strategies to meet the unique needs of each student
- Conduct assessments and develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with the IEP team
- Utilize assistive technology and amplification systems to facilitate access to instruction and communication
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and other support staff to ensure a coordinated approach to student learning
- Provide consultation and support to teachers and staff on best practices for working with students who are hard of hearing
- Advocate for the needs of students who are hard of hearing within the school community and beyond
