2024-2025 Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher Chandler, Arizona
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with hearing impairments, in accordance with state and federal regulations
- Provide direct instruction to students in areas such as language development, literacy, communication skills, and academic subjects
- Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and materials to accommodate different learning styles and abilities
- Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to support the inclusion of DHH students in mainstream classrooms
- Provide ongoing assessment of student progress and adjust instruction as needed to meet their evolving needs
- Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes self-advocacy, independence, and positive peer interactions
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, goals, and strategies for support at home
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field
- Valid Arizona teaching certificate with endorsement in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (or eligibility for certification)
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, preferably in a school setting
- Knowledge of best practices in DHH education, including sign language, auditory-verbal techniques, and assistive technology
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment that values diversity and promotes equity
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to adapt instruction to meet the individual needs of students
