This full-time, itinerant contract role focuses on empowering students with diverse hearing abilities to achieve their highest potential while collaborating with multiple school teams.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with hearing loss
- Strong understanding of assistive technologies and accommodations for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication methods used by DHH populations
- Ability to travel between schools and provide both direct and consultative services
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in various educational settings
- Develop, review, and adapt IEP goals to meet students' unique communication, academic, and social-emotional needs
- Consult regularly with general and special education staff to ensure appropriate accommodations and best practices are implemented
- Guide families and caregivers on strategies and resources to support student progress at home and in the community
- Monitor student progress, gather assessment data, and report outcomes in compliance with district and state guidelines
- Foster a positive, accessible learning atmosphere for every student
