Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) - Charleston, MS

What we’re seeking:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a solid foundation in Deaf culture
- Previous experience working as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or ASL instructor in educational settings
- State certification or licensure (or eligibility) appropriate for teaching ASL at the elementary level
- Skilled at engaging young learners in accessible, inclusive, and engaging instruction
- Ability to monitor, assess, and adapt instructional approaches according to individual student needs
- A collaborative spirit for working within school teams and supporting family communication
Primary responsibilities:
- Deliver targeted ASL instruction, initially one-on-one, with potential for increased caseload as the program grows
- Develop individualized lesson plans and adapt curricula to support the educational goals of elementary students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Foster an inclusive and accessible classroom environment
- Partner with families, speech and language professionals, and other educators to ensure student success
- Maintain accurate records and provide regular progress updates
You’ll begin with a manageable caseload of one student at 10 hours per week, offering the flexibility to increase your impact as the ASL program’s reach broadens during the school year.
