What we’re seeking:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a solid foundation in Deaf culture
  • Previous experience working as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or ASL instructor in educational settings
  • State certification or licensure (or eligibility) appropriate for teaching ASL at the elementary level
  • Skilled at engaging young learners in accessible, inclusive, and engaging instruction
  • Ability to monitor, assess, and adapt instructional approaches according to individual student needs
  • A collaborative spirit for working within school teams and supporting family communication

Primary responsibilities:

  • Deliver targeted ASL instruction, initially one-on-one, with potential for increased caseload as the program grows
  • Develop individualized lesson plans and adapt curricula to support the educational goals of elementary students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Foster an inclusive and accessible classroom environment
  • Partner with families, speech and language professionals, and other educators to ensure student success
  • Maintain accurate records and provide regular progress updates

You’ll begin with a manageable caseload of one student at 10 hours per week, offering the flexibility to increase your impact as the ASL program’s reach broadens during the school year.
