Travel Teacher of the Deaf | Joliet, Illinois
A rewarding opportunity is available for a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist to provide expert support to students across multiple school districts. This 2026-2027 Hearing Itinerant position offers a 1.0 FTE role with a focus on cooperative programming. The role serves a varied caseload, working with students from early childhood through 8th grade in the Joliet, IL area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction and support tailored to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and families to ensure student success.
- Provide direct, on-site support at various district schools on a travel basis.
- Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and monitor student progress.
- Facilitate communication access and assistive technology use as needed.
- Participate in team meetings and professional development.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing.
- Experience working with school-aged students from early childhood through 8th grade.
- Strong knowledge of communication methods and accommodations for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
- Ability to manage a cooperative programming caseload across multiple locations.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Flexibility for travel within school districts in the Joliet, IL area.
This position requires 35 hours per week, blending specialized instruction and itinerant travel to support diverse student needs.
