Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist - Plainfield, Illinois
Make a meaningful impact in the lives of students by providing specialized support as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist for the 2026-2027 school year. This contract opportunity offers the chance to work across multiple districts near the Plainfield and Joliet areas, serving a diverse caseload within cooperative programming. The role covers students from early childhood through 8th grade, and is full-time (1.0 FTE/35 hours per week), supporting their development, communication, and access to education.
Qualifications/Desired Experience:
- Valid teaching certification with Deaf/Hard of Hearing endorsement (or eligibility)
- Experience working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, particularly in school settings
- Knowledge of current instructional strategies, assistive technology, and language development approaches for D/HH students
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to partner with school teams, families, and related service providers
- Flexibility to work across various school sites within multiple districts
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to D/HH students, adapting instructional materials and strategies to support their needs
- Collaborate with general education teachers and staff to ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications are in place
- Assess student progress, participate in IEP and multidisciplinary team meetings, and help develop individualized goals
- Facilitate the use of amplification devices and assistive technology within educational settings
- Support the development of students’ social, academic, and self-advocacy skills
- Travel to various district locations as part of an itinerant model
