We're seeking a dedicated professional for a contract position serving school-aged children and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in an educational environment near Oakland, CA.
Desired Qualifications:
- Valid certification or credential as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist
- Previous experience as a teacher specializing in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education
- In-depth understanding of diverse communication methods, including ASL, cued speech, and oral approaches
- Ability to assess students’ needs and develop appropriate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
- Passion for advocacy, accessibility, and educational equity
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct and consultative services to students who are Deaf or hard of hearing across various grade levels
- Assess student abilities and tailor instruction or supports as needed
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to implement accommodations and modifications
- Participate actively in IEP meetings, providing expertise and ensuring legal compliance
- Foster an environment of inclusion, advocacy, and respect for Deaf culture and language differences
- Stay current with best practices and state/federal regulations related to Deaf/Hard of Hearing education
