Teacher of the Deaf | Oakland, California
Step into a dynamic educational setting supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing for the 2026-2027 academic year. This contract opportunity is based onsite, working across multiple school sites in a vibrant community near Oakland, offering fulfilling, hands-on experience in a collaborative team atmosphere. This role begins August 10, 2026 and concludes June 4, 2027.
In this position, you’ll provide in-person, itinerant support to a diverse caseload of students. Utilizing specialized strategies, you’ll play a vital role in fostering inclusive learning environments and ensuring students have equitable access to education.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Active Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) certification/license in California
- Experience working in California schools is preferred
- Strong organizational abilities and effective communication skills
- Previous experience supporting DHH students in an itinerant capacity is highly valued
Key Responsibilities:
- Travel between designated school sites to provide direct DHH support and consultation
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
- Serve as a resource for staff and families regarding DHH best practices and accommodations
- Adapt curriculum and communication methods to meet individual student needs
- Promote student advocacy, self-confidence, and independence within academic settings
