About the Role
A supportive school district in Coal Center, PA is seeking a dedicated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to serve students across multiple grade levels. The ideal educator will provide specialized instruction, communication support, and collaborative services to ensure students with hearing impairments can access the curriculum and succeed both academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide direct instruction using appropriate communication modalities (ASL, spoken language, total communication—based on student needs)
• Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals aligned with student abilities and learning needs
• Offer consultation to general education teachers and staff regarding accommodations, instructional strategies, and communication supports
• Support and troubleshoot assistive listening devices such as FM/DM systems and hearing technology
• Adapt curriculum materials for accessibility and provide communication-rich learning environments
• Conduct ongoing progress monitoring and maintain compliant documentation
• Collaborate with families, audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and IEP team members
Required Qualifications (Pennsylvania)
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf/Hard of Hearing Education or a related field
• Active Pennsylvania Teaching Certification with DHH endorsement (or equivalent)
• Experience supporting students with hearing impairments preferred
• Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and assistive hearing technologies
• Ability to complete PA clearances (FBI, Child Abuse, State Police)
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
