Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing - Derby, KS

This contract position serves a diverse student population, from early childhood through high school, across multiple district locations. With a focus on both academic achievement and social development, you'll provide specialized instruction in a variety of settings—whether supporting students in mainstream classrooms or more individualized learning environments.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Current teaching credentials with appropriate endorsement for Deaf/Hard of Hearing education
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), spoken English, or both
- Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Strong collaboration skills with educators, parents, and support staff
- Ability to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet a wide range of student abilities and needs
- Familiarity with assistive technology and its application in classroom settings
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction and adapt curriculum for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Teach in both mainstream and self-contained environments to support student inclusion and growth
- Manage, demonstrate, and support the use of assistive technology to enhance learning
- Facilitate communication and advocate for accessibility, ensuring consistent support across multiple locations
- Collaborate on the development and implementation of IEP goals to promote academic and social success
- Serve as a resource for students, staff, and families regarding language and communication strategies
This position is onsite, with the potential to explore hybrid arrangements in the future. The academic year begins August 11, 2026, and concludes May 19, 2027, with a weekly commitment of 37.5 hours.
