Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher - Peabody, MA
Make a meaningful impact as a dedicated Teacher for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students. This contract opportunity offers the chance to work with a diverse caseload of 43 students, ranging from PreK through age 22. Your expertise will help each student discover their strengths and thrive in an inclusive educational environment.
In this flexible position (18-20 hours per week), you'll divide your time between approximately 8 hours of consultation and 12 hours providing direct services weekly. This role involves collaborating with educators, support staff, and families to create tailored strategies that empower students with hearing challenges to reach their full academic and social potential.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid teaching certification for Deaf/Hard of Hearing or eligibility for certification
- Experience supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a school setting
- Familiarity with sign language and augmentative communication tools
- Ability to consult with general education teachers regarding modifications and accommodations
- Strong understanding of IEP processes and development
- Passion for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and advocating for students
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instructional support to DHH students, adjusting approaches for individual needs
- Conduct consultations with school staff and families to facilitate student inclusion
- Participate in IEP meetings, assess student progress, and provide recommendations
- Develop and implement educational materials and resources adapted for hearing differences
- Support the creation of a positive, accessible learning atmosphere
