Job Overview
We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to support students across Pre-K through secondary levels in San Jose, California for the 2026–2027 school year.
This role provides specialized instruction and support services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in inclusive educational settings. The ideal candidate is experienced in itinerant teaching, IEP development, and collaboration with school teams to ensure student success.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide itinerant DHH services to students from early childhood through high school
- Deliver specialized instruction for deaf and hard of hearing students in general education and special education settings
- Develop, implement, and manage Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Collaborate with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, and multidisciplinary teams
- Conduct assessments, progress monitoring, and data collection
- Support student access to the curriculum through assistive technology, auditory training, and communication strategies
- Provide consultation and training to staff and families regarding hearing loss and accommodations
- Travel between school sites within the San Jose area
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid California credential: Specialized Instruction Credential – Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing across multiple grade levels
- Knowledge of IDEA compliance, IEP processes, and inclusive education practices
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an itinerant teaching role
- Familiarity with ASL (American Sign Language) and/or auditory-verbal strategies
- Experience with assistive listening devices and classroom accommodations
- Background supporting students in Pre-K, elementary, middle, and high school settings
