Virtual Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing - FL
An opportunity is available for an itinerant Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) to deliver specialized telehealth services for a 6th-grade student with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. This contract role focuses on providing direct support to the student in the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) setting as outlined in the Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing 30 minutes weekly of targeted DHH instruction tailored to the student’s needs
- Supporting development of self-advocacy skills to empower the student in academic settings
- Teaching communication breakdown and repair strategies to enhance effective interaction
- Facilitating the correct and consistent use of hearing accommodations, including Phonak hearing aids
- Ensuring access to classroom instruction through ongoing consultation and service delivery using spoken language
Desired qualifications and experience:
- Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Experience working with school-aged children who have sensorineural hearing loss
- Skilled in delivering telehealth services to support remote learning environments
- Strong knowledge of hearing aid technology, particularly Phonak devices
- Familiarity with IEP implementation and collaboration within educational teams
