Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing or equivalent credential
  • Experience working with Deaf or Hard of Hearing students in K-12 settings
  • Strong knowledge of assistive technology and instructional approaches in deaf education
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) preferred
  • Excellent communication skills with students, families, and team members
  • Ability to create differentiated lesson plans and adapt materials to support varying learning abilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction and support to Deaf or Hard of Hearing students, both individually and in groups
  • Assess each student’s needs to develop appropriate strategies, IEP goals, and accommodations
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, related services, and families to ensure educational access
  • Provide resources and training to staff regarding communication strategies and deaf awareness
  • Encourage student independence, self-advocacy, and inclusion in all educational activities
  • Monitor and document progress, making adjustments to instructional approaches as needed
