Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) - Chesapeake, VA

This full-time role offers 35 hours per week, starting as soon as possible and continuing through mid-June of 2026. Compensation for this opportunity ranges from $40 to $50 per hour, depending on experience.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid certification or licensure as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist (or related area)
- Experience working with children in elementary grades
- Strong understanding of hearing assistive technology, including FM systems and cochlear implants
- Fluent or highly proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, speech-language pathologists, and families
- Solid grasp of IEP processes and documentation
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide direct services and support to a caseload of eight K-5 students at the district center
- Collaborate with educational staff to adapt curriculum and classroom environments
- Conduct assessments and develop individualized educational plans
- Teach self-advocacy, communication strategies, and listening skills tailored to each student
- Support classroom teachers with accommodations and instructional modifications
