Make a real impact supporting students as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist in a welcoming and collaborative district center near Norfolk, VA. This contract position offers a manageable caseload of only eight K-5th grade students, allowing you to create meaningful, individualized support plans and truly connect with each child. In this full-time role (35 hours per week), you’ll earn between $40 and $50 per hour while building strong relationships with students, families, and educational staff to ensure every child receives the support needed to thrive academically and socially.
Desired Qualifications:
- Valid specialist or teacher certification related to Deaf/Hard of Hearing services
- Prior experience with K-5th grade age group preferred
- Proficiency in sign language and/or other communication modalities used with DHH students
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to a small group of students
- Develop and adapt educational materials based on individual hearing needs
- Advocate for student access to instruction and accommodate learning environments
- Facilitate communication between students, peers, and staff
- Monitor and document progress, updating goals as necessary
- Offer training or support to teachers and parents where needed
