Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) - Tempe, AZ
Make a meaningful impact as a Full-Time Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist supporting students across multiple K-8 schools, including developmental preschool classrooms. In this itinerant role, you’ll collaborate with teams at ten campuses, ensuring that each student receives the support and instruction they need to thrive. This contract opportunity offers the chance to work closely with a diverse caseload of approximately 25 students at the beginning of the year.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education or eligibility
- Experience working with K-8 students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Strong understanding of IEP processes, assistive technology, and educational strategies for hearing-impaired students
- Excellent communication and consultation skills with school staff and families
- Ability to travel between multiple schools during the week
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, engaging learning environment
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with hearing impairments, both individually and in small groups
- Collaborate with general education teachers, speech therapists, and other service providers to adapt curriculum and create accessible learning experiences
- Conduct assessments to identify students’ needs and monitor progress
- Develop, implement, and review IEPs, ensuring compliance with federal and state guidelines
- Offer training and resources to school staff on best practices for supporting hearing-impaired learners
- Serve as a resource for family engagement and advocacy throughout the educational experience
