Teacher of the Deaf | Chesapeake, Virginia
A full-time Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist position is available to support students in a dedicated district center in Chesapeake, VA. This contract role allows the candidate to work closely with a small caseload, providing specialized services to children from Kindergarten through 5th grade. The position begins as soon as possible and continues through June 16, 2026, offering 35 hours per week to focus on delivering targeted support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized instruction and support tailored to the needs of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
- Collaborate with educational staff and families to create inclusive learning environments.
- Assess, monitor, and report student progress and adapt instructional plans accordingly.
- Facilitate communication access and provide appropriate assistive technology support.
- Ensure compliance with relevant educational regulations and best practices.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or Related Service Provider in an educational setting.
- Knowledge of hearing loss interventions, assistive technology, and communication strategies.
- Strong understanding of child development and instructional techniques for grades K-5.
- Ability to manage a focused caseload and maintain detailed documentation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
Location: Chesapeake, VA (Work conducted at the district center)
Schedule: Full-time, 35 hours per week
Compensation: $40 - $50 per hour
