Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) - Washington, PA
Empower students with diverse communication needs by providing transformative support as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Specialist on a contract basis. Key Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education
- Experience supporting students with hearing loss in school settings
- Expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication methods
- Strong ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including general educators, interpreters, and families
- Compassion, adaptability, and a student-centered approach
- Comfortable working either on-site or virtually, as needs may vary
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative instructional support to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in a variety of academic subjects
- Implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), adapting curriculum and instruction based on student needs
- Use technology and assistive devices to maximize communication access
- Serve as a resource for staff and families, offering training and strategies that promote inclusion and accessibility
- Cultivate a supportive and understanding classroom environment that respects and uplifts students’ identities
- Maintain ongoing, clear communication with families, teachers, and related service providers
