Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher (DHH) Job Available
A full-time Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher position is available in Palm Beach, FL for the upcoming school year. About the Role:
This role focuses on providing specialized instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, helping them develop communication, language, and academic skills. In Palm Beach County schools, DHH services may include ASL support, auditory-oral strategies, assistive technology, and individualized accommodations based on each student’s needs.
The DHH Teacher will collaborate with general education staff, interpreters, and families to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field
- Active Florida teaching certification with endorsement in Deaf or Hard of Hearing (K-12)
- Compliance with Florida Department of Education requirements
- Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and/or total communication methods preferred
- Understanding of hearing assistive technology and communication strategies
- Previous school-based experience preferred
- Ability to pass background check and fingerprinting
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
Job Duties:
- Provide direct instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Adapt curriculum and materials to ensure accessibility
- Collaborate with interpreters, audiologists, and school staff
- Support communication development using appropriate modalities (ASL, oral, or total communication)
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation
- Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions
