An opportunity is available for a dedicated Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing to support students across multiple grade levels in a school setting in Douglas, Alaska. This full-time contract position spans the 2026-2027 school year, with employment from August 17, 2026, through May 28, 2027. The role involves working directly onsite with a current caseload of 10 students from 1st through 12th grade, providing specialized educational instruction and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, adapting curriculum to meet individual needs.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech therapists, and other support staff to ensure accessibility and inclusion.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, maintaining detailed records and communicating with families and educational teams.
  • Provide assistive technology support and implement strategies to enhance communication.
  • Travel onsite as required across grade levels within the school to support students effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold Alaska state licensure and Type C certification for teaching deaf/hard of hearing students; applicants with pending licensure will also be considered with proof.
  • Proven experience working with deaf/hard of hearing students or in similar educational settings.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Flexibility to work variable hours typically between 8 AM and 4 PM.

Location: Douglas, AK – onsite position with travel to student classrooms during the school day; travel-related expenses will be reimbursed.
