Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) - Wichita, Kansas
Make a difference across multiple schools by providing specialized instruction and support as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. In this contract role, you’ll contribute to student success by adapting curriculum, facilitating meaningful communication, and shaping accessible learning environments for students ages EC-12. This position is district-wide, serving a variety of sites and supporting students in both mainstream and specialized classroom settings.
In this influential role, you'll:
- Deliver tailored instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, utilizing both sign language and spoken language as appropriate.
- Adapt academic content and teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning needs, ensuring every student has equitable opportunities to thrive.
- Implement, troubleshoot, and manage assistive technology designed to aid communication and learning.
- Serve as an advocate for students, promoting accessibility and fostering inclusive classroom communities.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to develop and monitor Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
- Support students’ social and emotional development, promoting confidence and self-advocacy skills.
- Provide ongoing consultation and professional development to staff across multiple sites within the district.
Qualifications:
- State certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing is required.
- Experience working with students ages EC-12 in both mainstream and specialized settings is preferred.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or spoken language modalities.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of IEP processes and laws pertaining to special education.
- Comfortable working district-wide at various locations throughout the school year.
This is an onsite-only opportunity beginning August 11, 2026, and running through May 19, 2027, with the potential to explore hybrid options in the future.
