Teacher of the Deaf in Kingsford, MI
Make an important impact supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing! A new contract opportunity is available for a skilled Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. This is an on-site position (no VOCO/remote option) working with school-aged children in the Kingsford, MI area. Ideal candidates have experience providing direct and consultative services to Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, collaborating with educators and families, and ensuring access to communication and curriculum across settings.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or a related field
- Valid state certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Experience implementing IEPs and adapting materials for students with hearing loss
- Strong knowledge of auditory/oral, total communication, and ASL strategies
- Ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary teams
- Passion for fostering a positive, supportive school culture
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging instruction and support tailored to the individual needs of students
- Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate on appropriate accommodations and modifications
- Provide training and resources to teachers and staff on best practices for working with Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
- Advocate for student access and equitable participation in all school activities
- Maintain records, monitor progress, and communicate regularly with families
- Serve as a liaison between school, students, and community resources
