You’ll play a vital role in providing specialized instruction and advocacy to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, helping them reach their educational goals in a welcoming environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction to students with hearing impairments, adapting curriculum to meet varied learning needs
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to create accessible and inclusive learning experiences
- Assess student progress, create IEPs, and help implement appropriate accommodations or modifications
- Serve as a resource for staff and families on best practices in deaf education and assistive technology
- Contribute to IEP meetings, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and district policies
Desired Qualifications:
- Certification or eligibility for certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, preferably in a school setting
- Strong knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL), auditory/oral methods, and/or cued speech techniques
- Ability to develop and implement effective, individualized strategies for student achievement
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
