DHH Teacher | Newark, Delaware
Empower students to thrive by supporting educational access as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. Qualifications & Skills:
- Valid state teaching certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (or eligibility to obtain)
- Proficiency in developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Strong understanding of auditory amplification devices and assistive technology
- American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency preferred
- Experience working with students across a range of ages and hearing abilities
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Commitment to fostering a positive, supportive learning environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction aligned with students' IEP goals
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and families to adapt curriculum and instructional materials
- Advocate for accessible communication methods, including sign language, oral, and total communication approaches
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed
- Provide consultative support and in-service training for school staff
- Contribute to a culture that values diversity, inclusion, and individual achievement
