Position Overview:
We are seeking a qualified and passionate Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to support students in St. Lucie County, FL for the 2026–2027 school year. This role involves providing specialized instruction and support to students with hearing impairments, ensuring access to the curriculum and promoting academic and social success. The ideal candidate is experienced, collaborative, and committed to inclusive education.
Responsibilities:
Provide direct instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in individual and small group settings
Adapt general education curriculum to meet students’ unique communication and learning needs
Collaborate with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, and support staff
Support students’ use of assistive listening devices and communication methods (ASL, oral communication, etc.)
Conduct assessments and track student progress toward IEP goals
Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to goal development and progress reporting
Provide consultation and training to school staff and families as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field
Valid Florida teaching certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing (or eligibility to obtain)
Experience working with students with hearing impairments preferred
Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) preferred
Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills
Passion for supporting diverse learners
