Preferred Experience & Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated fluency.
  • Experience teaching or interpreting for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
  • Familiarity with IEP development and implementation is strongly preferred.
  • Educational credentialing or certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, or current ASL interpreter certification.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, and families.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt communication styles to meet diverse student needs.
  • Dedication to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and supportive classroom culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time ASL interpretation during instruction, school events, and extracurricular activities.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to adapt curriculum and assignments as needed.
  • Support the development and monitoring of accommodations for students’ individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Act as a language model and resource for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
  • Participate in team meetings, assessments, and ongoing professional development.
  • Promote self-advocacy skills and independence for students, both in and out of the classroom.
