Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher (DHH) in Athens, AL

Qualifications & Experience Sought:

• Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (consult state requirements)

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication modes used by D/HH students
• Strong ability to collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families
• Competence in conducting assessments and developing individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Flexibility and strong organizational skills to navigate multiple assignments and settings

Key Responsibilities:

• Support and implement accommodations for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students within mainstream and/or specialized classrooms
• Provide direct instruction and interventions tailored to individual needs
• Consult with school staff to promote accessible learning environments
• Foster self-advocacy, social-emotional growth, and communication development
• Participate in IEP processes, including assessment, goal writing, and progress monitoring
• Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in Deaf education
