Key Qualifications:

  • Valid Illinois Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing certification (TDHH Cert in IL) required
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred
  • Strong knowledge of current best practices for deaf/hard of hearing education
  • Proficient in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, and families

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and support to elementary students who are deaf or hard of hearing in accordance with individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Develop and adapt lesson plans to ensure accessibility and understanding
  • Conduct assessments and contribute to IEP meetings, documenting progress and making recommendations for student needs
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and parents to support student inclusion and success
  • Utilize technology, assistive devices, and visual resources to enhance communication and learning
  • Foster a positive, supportive atmosphere where each student can thrive academically and socially
