Key Qualifications:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing or similar credentials
  • Experience working with children or adolescents in school settings
  • Strong knowledge of assistive listening devices, American Sign Language (ASL), and other communication modalities
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Excellent skills in advocacy, relationship-building, and communication, both written and verbal
  • Capacity to adapt instructional techniques to meet diverse student needs
  • Familiarity with current educational best practices for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and support to students with hearing loss both individually and in classroom settings
  • Consult with teachers and staff to modify curricula and integrate accommodations, ensuring equal access to learning
  • Collaborate with families, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and other support staff
  • Conduct assessments to determine students’ needs and monitor ongoing progress
  • Advocate for appropriate resources and technology to enhance student learning
  • Participate in IEP meetings and prepare comprehensive documentation
