Desired Skills and Experience:
- Certification or credential as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or Teacher for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Experience in educational settings supporting deaf or hard of hearing students, particularly at the elementary level
- Strong understanding of various communication modes, such as ASL, total communication, and auditory-oral approaches
- Ability to create and adapt lesson plans to meet individualized education plans (IEPs) and diverse learning needs
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills for working with teachers, support staff, families, and administrators
- Compassionate, patient, and adaptable approach to working with young children
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to elementary students who are deaf or hard of hearing in classroom settings
- Develop and implement instructional strategies tailored to each student’s IEP goals and communication preferences
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to ensure access to curriculum and promote inclusivity
- Regularly assess student progress and contribute to IEP meetings, providing clear, actionable updates and recommendations
- Serve as a resource for staff and families, offering guidance on creating an accessible and supportive learning environment
- Promote self-advocacy, social interaction, and independence among students
