Position Summary

The Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) provides specialized instructional services and support to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in educational settings. The DHH Teacher collaborates with school staff, families, interpreters, and related service providers to ensure students have access to the curriculum and achieve academic success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide direct instructional services to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in individual and group settings
Adapt instructional materials and teaching strategies to meet student communication and learning needs
Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, interpreters, audiologists, and families to support student success
Participate in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate educational records and documentation
Support student access to classroom instruction and educational accommodations
Conduct assessments and contribute to eligibility and evaluation processes as appropriate
Travel between assigned school sites as required by district needs
Maintain compliance with district, state, and federal special education regulations and timelines
Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, parent conferences, and professional development activities
Maintain confidentiality of student records and information

Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Deaf Education or related field
Active Tennessee Department of Education (TN DOE) certification required
Previous school-based experience preferred
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Ability to work effectively with students across K–12 grade levels
Requirements
Tennessee fingerprinting/background clearance required prior to start
Must meet all district and state credentialing requirements
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift materials up to 25 pounds
Ability to travel between multiple school locations as assigned
Work Environment
School-based setting serving students in grades K–12
Collaborative educational environment with multidisciplinary teams
May involve assignment to multiple campuses throughout the district
