Empower students across San Francisco as an itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year! This contract position provides an excellent opportunity to work directly with students from early childhood through transition age, making a meaningful impact throughout the district. You’ll primarily serve in a consultative capacity, supporting students, teachers, and families to foster communication access and inclusion in educational settings.
Qualifications:
- Valid DHH (Deaf/Hard of Hearing) teaching credential
- California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) certification
- Experience working with DHH students across a range of ages, preferably in an itinerant or consultative role
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with staff, families, and administrators
- Commitment to fostering inclusive and accessible learning environments
Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction and support for DHH students in various schools, focusing on effective communication strategies and accommodations
- Consult with general and special education staff to ensure appropriate classroom modifications, access to resources, and promotion of best practices
- Conduct assessments and contribute to IEP development for students, maintaining thorough, up-to-date documentation
- Travel onsite to schools districtwide, primarily in the Richmond area of San Francisco, based on student needs
- Engage with families to support student progress, advocate for resources, and provide guidance on communication and learning access
- Participate in professional development opportunities and maintain ongoing communication with the district’s special education leadership
