This contract position is perfect for skilled teachers ready to provide direct, specialized instruction to 1st and 2nd-grade students in a dedicated elementary classroom setting. You’ll utilize a variety of communication modalities—such as ASL, spoken language, or total communication—aligned with each student’s IEP, as you work to create an environment that supports linguistic growth and academic achievement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver targeted instruction in reading, writing, math, and core subjects aligned with grade-level TEKS, adapted for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
- Implement IEPs in collaboration with support staff and related service providers, regularly monitoring and reporting student progress
- Utilize appropriate assessments for language, literacy, and academic growth
- Foster strong collaborations with audiologists, SLPs, interpreters, and other related service professionals
- Maintain a classroom supporting visual learning, language access, and effective use of technology (FM systems, sound field systems, etc.)
- Communicate consistently with families regarding student progress and classroom expectations
- Ensure full compliance with IDEA and all state/district regulations
- Participate in ARD/IEP meetings, staff trainings, and professional development
Preferred Experience & Skills:
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (EC-12) certification (or eligible prior to start)
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Functional proficiency in ASL and/or listening and spoken language methodologies
- Experience developing and implementing IEPs; knowledge of language/literacy development for DHH students
- Experience with K–2 literacy instruction and self-contained DHH settings preferred
- Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
