Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher - Mansfield, TX

In this rewarding contract role, you’ll work directly with 1st and 2nd grade students who are deaf or hard of hearing, providing specialized instruction tailored to each student’s unique communication needs. As a dedicated educator in this full-time position, your expertise and collaboration will help ensure equitable access to the core curriculum in reading, writing, math, and other content areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized, direct instruction based on grade-level TEKS, modified to support deaf or hard of hearing learners
- Utilize the communication modality specified in each student’s IEP (e.g., ASL, spoken language, total communication)
- Develop and implement IEPs in partnership with the RDSPD Coordinator and related service professionals
- Regularly assess, document, and report student progress towards IEP goals
- Coordinate with audiologists, speech-language pathologists, interpreters, and other service providers
- Maintain ongoing communication with families regarding student progress and classroom routines
- Establish and maintain a classroom environment that supports optimal visual and auditory access, including use of technology such as FM or sound field systems
- Participate actively in ARD/IEP meetings and required trainings
Minimum Qualifications:
- Texas teaching certification with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (EC-12), or eligibility to obtain prior to start date
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Proficiency in ASL and/or spoken language instructional methods
- Deep understanding of language acquisition and literacy for deaf/hard of hearing children
- Experience creating and implementing IEPs
Preferred Experience:
- Prior work in a self-contained DHH classroom, especially at the early elementary level
- Familiarity with RDSPD program frameworks
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) ability is a plus
