Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) - Decatur, Alabama

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Valid teaching certification with specialization in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education required
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication methods used by Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
• Experience designing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Strong understanding of audiology reports and ability to interpret/explain accommodations
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and families
• Exceptional communication, organization, and advocacy skills

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct instruction to Deaf/Hard of Hearing students across various age groups and educational levels
• Adapt and develop lesson plans tailored to each student’s abilities and preferred communication modes
• Assess student progress and adjust instructional strategies to maximize engagement and growth
• Serve as a resource to faculty, offering guidance on accommodations, technology, and classroom strategies
• Attend and actively participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and professional development opportunities
• Foster a safe, empowering classroom environment where every student can thrive academically and socially
