Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) | Hampton, Virginia
Inspire learning and make a real difference in the lives of students as a Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the Hampton, VA area. This contract role offers the opportunity to provide vital access to education for students by supporting diverse communication needs, adapting curriculum, and fostering student independence. You’ll travel between schools (itinerant assignment), collaborating closely with families and a team of dedicated professionals. The position runs from August 24th through June 4th, 2027, with a full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week.

Qualifications & Experience:
- Virginia Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certification required
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in academic and communication skill development
- Familiarity with individualized education programs (IEPs) and special education law
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), speech/language strategies, or total communication
- Ability to consult and collaborate with school staff, families, and support service providers
- Experience using and troubleshooting hearing technology and assistive devices
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction aligned with each student’s IEP goals
- Adapt and modify learning materials for accessibility
- Teach and support communication methods based on student needs (ASL, auditory training, spoken language)
- Assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly
- Consult with general education staff to promote inclusion
- Coordinate with audiologists, SLPs, and other specialists
- Support development of self-advocacy and independence for students
