Key Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) or eligibility for certification in the state of Connecticut
- Proven experience working with children or adolescents who are deaf or hard of hearing in educational settings
- Strong understanding of various communication methodologies, including American Sign Language (ASL), auditory/oral, and total communication approaches
- Excellent collaboration skills for working with students, parents, and multidisciplinary school teams
- Ability to adapt lesson plans to meet individual student needs and learning styles
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive classroom environment
Your Responsibilities:
- Develop, adapt, and deliver effective lesson plans for deaf and hard of hearing students in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Assess students’ language, communication, and academic abilities to monitor progress and adjust instruction as needed
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, speech-language pathologists, and support staff to ensure seamless integration and a holistic approach to learning
- Facilitate communication between students and peers, promoting social and academic engagement
- Provide resources and training to school personnel and families to enhance understanding of DHH issues and support student success
- Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports in compliance with school and state requirements
