Make a meaningful difference for students in need of specialized support as a skilled Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. This contract position offers the opportunity to provide both direct and consultative services to a diverse student caseload near New Paltz, NY. Work in a collaborative school environment, tailoring instruction to maximize communication access and classroom participation.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid certification as Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, preferably in school settings
- Strong knowledge of instructional strategies and accommodations for varied communication modalities (sign language, oral, total communication, etc.)
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills with students, educators, and families
- Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Commitment to supporting language, academic, and social-emotional growth
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instructional services and provide consults according to individualized student schedules:
- Student 1: 2x30-minute direct per 6-day cycle, 1x30-minute consult monthly
- Student 2: 10x30-minute direct per quarter, 1x30-minute consult quarterly
- Student 3: 1x40-minute direct daily, 1x30-minute consult monthly
- Student 4: 2x60-minute direct daily
- Adapt curriculum and learning materials to meet hearing and communication needs
- Consult and partner with classroom teachers and related service providers
- Participate in IEP meetings, progress monitoring, and documentation
- Foster an inclusive, accessible environment that promotes student engagement and success
