Key Qualifications:
- Current and valid New York State Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) certification
- Experience working with elementary-aged students in educational settings
- Strong understanding of instructional strategies for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Competence with assistive listening devices and accessible classroom technology
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
- Ability to adapt curriculum and support students individually or in small groups
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to facilitate student access and participation
- Monitor student progress, maintain records, and participate in IEP meetings
- Implement accommodations, modifications, and use of sign language or other communication methods as appropriate
- Advise staff and parents on best practices for supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Stay current with the latest resources and strategies in deaf education
This flexible, part-time role averages about 10 hours per week and focuses on serving a single elementary school site, allowing you to build strong rapport and make a meaningful difference in your students’ daily experience.
