Key Qualifications:
- Valid New York State certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (NY TDHH)
- Experience working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing, preferably in a school environment
- Strong understanding of language development, auditory training, assistive technology, and accessible instructional practices
- Ability to collaborate with general educators, families, and related service providers
- Excellent communication and advocacy skills
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction, support, and advocacy for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, tailored to their IEPs
- Consult with teachers and staff to ensure accommodations, modifications, and accessibility in the classroom
- Develop and implement individualized educational plans, progress monitoring, and goal setting
- Support language acquisition and communication needs, employing both spoken language and sign language as appropriate
- Maintain thorough documentation and communication with families regarding progress and strategies
- Serve as a resource for staff in understanding the needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing
This part-time opportunity (approximately 10 hours per week) runs through June 2027 and keeps your focus within one elementary school, allowing you to make a lasting impact with each student and collaborate meaningfully with faculty.
