Teacher of the Deaf in Washougal, WA
Make a meaningful difference in students’ lives as an itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) supporting schools throughout the Vancouver, WA area for the full academic year. In this full-time contract role, you will collaborate closely with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams across various campuses, ensuring that students with hearing loss have optimal access to education and community.
As an itinerant professional, you’ll enjoy a flexible weekly schedule, traveling to different school sites to provide both direct instruction and consultative support. Your expertise will help develop and implement individualized education plans and strategies that respond to the unique needs of each student.
Qualifications:
- Valid OSPI Certification with Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) endorsement
- Direct experience supporting individuals with cochlear implants and hearing aids
- Proficiency serving students who utilize FM systems and American Sign Language (ASL)
- Strong understanding of inclusive and adaptive instructional practices
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with educators and families
Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized instruction and support for students who are deaf or hard of hearing across multiple school sites
- Assess student needs and contribute to the development and implementation of IEPs
- Consult with general education teachers, specialists, and families to foster an accessible learning environment
- Provide ongoing education, advocacy, and strategies related to assistive technology and communication modalities
- Participate in team meetings, in-service trainings, and professional development as needed
- Travel to schools within the district on a weekly itinerary
